Don't just take our word for it.
"Dear Hojicha Latte: gentle, nutty, low caffeine, perfect for studying. No racing heart, even in the evening. A lifesaver for me (22)."
Maria Manetti
"I love Hojicha! Wonderfully mild with fine roasted aromas and a hint of caramel. Not bitter at all, just gentle and soothing."
Irene
"As an absolute matcha snob, I was super critical. But the powder is extremely fine and dissolves perfectly. The taste is super creamy and nutty. It actually reminds me of my Japan vacation!"

The Art of Preparing Hojicha
Discover the traditional process behind our premium roasted green tea.
1. Harvest
Our Hojicha powder production begins in the field: depending on the desired aroma, leaves are harvested by hand or machine, immediately aerated, and inspected for quality.
2. Damping
As with classic green tea, the freshly harvested tea leaves are steamed immediately after harvesting to prevent oxidation and preserve their green color.
3. Roasting
The leaves are briefly steamed or lightly heated, gently dried, and intermediately stored. They are then roasted at moderate temperatures until golden brown and a smoky aroma develops.
4. Milling
The roasted leaf material is coarsely crushed, very finely ground, sieved, and processed under temperature control. After sensory, moisture, and microbiological testing, the powder is packed in airtight/lightproof containers.
🤔 Questions? We've got answers!
What is Hojicha?
Hojicha (pronounced: HOH-jee-cha) is a Japanese green tea that is roasted at a high temperature after being steamed. This roasting process gives it its characteristic coppery-brown color and a unique, mild aroma.
What does Hojicha taste like?
Hojicha is known for its warm, calming taste. It is mild, nutty, slightly caramel-like, and has a pleasant earthy note. Unlike many other green teas, it is hardly bitter and free from grassy notes.
What's the difference between Hojicha and Matcha?
Both are green teas, but they differ significantly:
Matcha is unroasted and ground into a fine powder, is bright green, and has an intense, slightly tart umami flavor with high caffeine content.
Hojicha is roasted, is brown, and has a mild, nutty flavor with low caffeine content.
Where does RokuTea's Hojicha come from?
Our Hojicha comes from the heart of Japan.
What's the best way to store Hojicha?
Always store your Hojicha hermetically sealed in a cool, dry, and dark place (e.g., in a kitchen cabinet). Avoid moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Please do not store tea in the refrigerator, as condensation can impair the aroma.
